We offer a unique getaway in the Green Mountains of Vermont in our comfortable wood and canvas Mongolian-style yurts.

Scenic Location, Sweeping Mountain Views

Located in Huntington, Vermont, Maple Wind Farm is 25 miles southeast of Burlington. Bordering Camel’s Hump State Park, our 140-acre farm is located at the end of a dirt road at 1600 feet with sweeping views of the Green Mountains to the west. Camel’s Hump dominates Huntington’s skyline and is one of four alpine peaks in the state over 4000 feet.

Cross Country, Downhill & Telemark Skiing

Alpine skiers will be interested to know that we are only 6.5 miles from Mad River Glen ski area and 30 minutes from Sugarbush ski resort. Cross country and backcountry skiing and snowshoeing, for all abilities, can be had right out the yurt door.

Paths from the farm link up with the Long Trail and Catamount Trail (hiking and ski trails that run the length of Vermont). In addition to the managed trails, you can also enjoy wandering the open meadows of our farm as well as escaping into the woods to catch glimpses of many kinds of birds and woodland creatures. And, of course, there is fabulous hiking on nearby Camel’s Hump.

Yurt Highlights – Sleep up to 10 People MWF Yurt interior

You’ll find our 24 foot round yurts a great place to stay with friends and family. We have two yurts about 300 yards apart from one another. The Maple and the Spruce Yurts, appropriately named, are nestled in quiet corners of our property. Once you are settled into your yurt, you will feel as though you’re miles from civilization and can start your backcountry experience (Although you may hear a cow from our pasture or one of our dogs bark!). Spacious and cozy for up to 10 folks to bunk in for the night, you’ll sleep on handmade wooden bunk beds. The rest of the yurt is equipped with a kitchen area, eating area, woodstove, and a composting outhouse. See full list of what to bring and what is in the yurt. We expect our guests to use their “Leave No Trace” camping skills while staying in our yurts, to leave them clean and tidy for the next folks.

Upon Your Arrival

Once you’ve arrived at Maple Wind Farm, you will find ample parking (we do suggest carpooling!). We provide water jugs and hauling sleds for you to take your gear to your yurt. Getting to either yurt takes about 10 minutes walking or skiing to a distant corner of our property.

Who We Are

Maple Wind Farm has been in operation since 1999, with owners Bruce Hennessey and Beth Whiting at the helm. We used to run On the Loose Expeditions, an adventure travel company that guided folks on journeys and adventures in far reaches of the world. In 2009 we decided to close the doors of On the Loose and just focus on the farm. We both adore spending time with our children, Bryn and David, doing farm chores, cooking, swimming, or skiing.

About Our Farm

Our farm’s mission is to grow the healthiest possible food for our family and customers. We raise 100% grass-fed beef, pasture-raised pork, poultry (chickens and turkeys), and eggs. We are committed to alternate energy system and we utilize wind, solar and horse power in much of our operation.
