Welcome to Our New Website!
Well it’s finally done! We are so pleased with our NEW WEBSITE! Please visit the site, great photos, great content and information about our farming practices and expansions and even a way to order our products online! So many thanks go out to Pam Knights Communications for helping us put it all together and her great design crew. We started this project back in May! It’s been a long road but we made it. Have fun and enjoy!
Another milestone for Maple Wind Farm for 2013 was the purchase of the Andrews Farm (pictured) on Rte 2 in Richmond, VT. We had been leasing this 200-acre parcel and using the old dairy barn for our farm operations for nine years, but thanks to the Vermont Land Trust and many others we were able to conserve our home farm in Huntington, and purchase the new farm (2 conserved farms!). This farm is the site of our Vermont State-inspected poultry facility where we processed over 5000 chickens and 400 turkeys this year. We had a wonderful Open Farm Celebration October 6th that was a great success with BBQ MWF chicken, live music, and tours of the barn and facility. Thank you to all of you who came out on the rather chilly day!
Going Forward – New Grain Mill & USDA Certification
Looking forward, we are expecting delivery of a grain mill that will enable us to mill our own locally-sourced non-GMO grain for our poultry and pork operations! In addition, this winter we will be applying for USDA certification of our poultry facility to be able to ship across state lines to expand our sales of pasture raised poultry.
We could not have done this ourselves… Huge kudos go out to our tireless crew of 2013. Maple Wind Farm’s 10-acre organic vegetable operation was managed by Tucker Andrews with an awesome field crew: Margaret Kane, Zach Lord, Mykayla Fleury, Reina G. and our equipment guru, Jonathan Baldwin. The poultry operation is managed year round by John Smith, aka “Chicken John”, who takes care of the poultry and manages the processing unit. On the home farm in Huntington we had an amazing crew who were so able to go with the flow and pitch in all over the farm anywhere and everywhere necessary! Thanks to Nate and Liz Brownlee and Patrick Dunseith.
Thanksgiving Turkeys & Winter Yurt Rentals
As the season winds down, we still have Thanksgiving turkeys to share, grazing cows, pasturing pigs and laying hens to care for, and lots of wood to split for our yurt rental guests this winter… we will be thankful this holiday season for all we have and all the great food we’ve been able to provide to our customers! We look forward to a slower pace… please stop by the Burlington Farmers’ Indoor Market or find us on the slopes of Mad River Glen!
